Restructuring Skill Analyses with QuantHub qScore™

Skill analysis results now have a refreshed look–learn more about the changes.

Previously in QuantHub, skill analyses provided scores as percentages of how probable a user knows a skill. Now, we've made that same data to be shown as a qScore.

Let's dive into what this means!

What is a qScore?

qScore is a QuantHub assessed proficiency score for data fluency, data exploration, data science, data engineering, advanced analytics skills, and more!

The qScore benchmarks are calculated from tens of thousands of assessed analysts and data scientists across all levels of ability.

Quanthub skill tests measure proficiency across data science, data engineering, advanced analytics, and data literacy skills using a computer adaptive test (CAT) engine based on item response theory.

Each test taker receives a unique test, created in real-time, from a large pool of questions ranging in difficulty. Questions are selected based on the test taker’s response to previous questions. In 30 minutes or less, a qScore measurement of the test taker’s ability and knowledge may be determined for a specific skill.

Breakdown of qScore and Skill Proficiency

All qScores are reported on a 0.0 to 5.0 range.

The qScore indicates the proficiency level of the individual:

Score Description
< 1.0 Does not meet base level ability of skill.
1.0 – 1.9 Demonstrates basic understanding or general familiarity.
2.0 – 2.9 Demonstrates conceptual understanding and ability to describe or explain components of skill tested.
3.0 – 3.9 Demonstrates conceptual understanding and ability to apply skill.
4.0 – 4.4 Demonstrates practical understanding and ability to adapt skill.
4.5 – 5.0 Demonstrates mastery-level understanding and ability of skill.

Percentages vs. qScores

Previously, skill analyses’ probability scores were displayed as percentages. Below you can see some example conversions of percentages into qScores.

Probability Score qScore
25% 1.25
50% 2.5
75% 3.75
95% 4.75
100% 5.0

Simply put, we've scaled our skill analyses results of 0-100% to now read as 0.0-5.0.
